I AM WELL-POSITIONED TO RECOMMEND MY SUCCESSOR AND I BELIEVE DR. BAWUMIA IS THE BEST CANDIDATE – AKUFO-ADDO

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that he lacks the authority to impose a presidential candidate on the citizens of Ghana in the upcoming general election.

Nonetheless, he expressed that, as an 80-year-old individual who has completed two consecutive terms in office, he is well-positioned to offer guidance regarding which of the presidential candidates may be suitable to succeed him.

While speaking to the clergy and the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs in Wa, the President remarked.

As President, I cannot impose anybody on you. I don’t have the power, and I don’t have the interest. Just as I was elected, the next person to stand here in my shoes will also be elected by the people of Ghana.

But I believe that as an 80-year-old man who has been a two-term President of Ghana and who has been involved in a lot of Ghana’s recent history, certainly in the history of the Fourth Republic, I am in a good position to advise who should come and stand in my shoes.

He stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is exceptionally qualified to advance the government’s initiatives in sectors such as road infrastructure, agriculture, education, and health, among others. In praising the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, with whom he has collaborated for nearly two decades, he characterized Bawumia as

A hard-working, honest, trustworthy man” with “deep knowledge, great experience in economic policy and management” and “a man of great loyalty.

As Vice President, President Akufo-Addo stated that Dr. Bawumia had played a significant role in nearly all the policies implemented by his administration and was thus prepared to carry them forward to achieve the anticipated success.
