NAPO: SMALL-SCALE MINERS TO BE EMPOWERED UNDER NPP

NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, assures that the next NPP administration will support small-scale miners in expanding operations through responsible mining practices.

Speaking to community members and party supporters in the Manso Adubia constituency, Ashanti Region, he emphasized the difference between responsible, regulated mining and the destructive impact of illegal activities on forests and water bodies.

Announcing a key shift in the fight against illegal mining, NAPO highlighted that the NPP remains focused on managing Ghana’s minerals to boost the economy and improve livelihoods, all while safeguarding the environment.

During his campaign tour, he made stops at several churches in the Manso Adubia constituency to join them in worship.

He extended heartfelt gratitude to the churches for their prayers and blessings, not just for the presidential candidate and himself, but for the entire New Patriotic Party.

He outlined Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision to advance responsible mining, highlighting the plan to establish a Minerals Development Bank in partnership with the private sector.

The bank will be crucial in driving sustainable development within the mining sector.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, NAPO assured miners that the next NPP government will shift its focus from merely halting illegal mining to implementing measures that support legal mining operations, emphasizing the planned reforms.

He revealed that the Minerals Development Bank will offer financial assistance to the mining sector, with the goal of promoting sustainable and responsible mining practices while reducing the harassment miners often face.

Highlighting the NPP’s strong track record in economic growth, NAPO emphasized the government’s successes in areas such as cocoa production, farmer incentives, and improving the overall welfare of cocoa farmers.

He noted that Ghana achieved its highest-ever cocoa production, exceeding one million metric tonnes during the 2020/2021 crop season, attributing this remarkable achievement to the government’s strategic investments and prioritization of the cocoa industry.

The clergy also offered prayers, seeking God’s protection for the NPP’s running mate and the entire party.
