With fewer than 60 days remaining until the election on December 7, a faction of supporters from Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change in the Central Region has shifted their allegiance to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This group, consisting of over 100 individuals, made their announcement during a press conference held on Tuesday in October. Francis Edzie, the spokesperson and Polling Station Secretary for Twi-Ndzi in the Gegem Electoral Area of Cape Coast South, indicated that this decision was made following discussions with the national campaign leadership.
They have committed to actively campaigning for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to secure his success in the upcoming 2024 election. The supporters articulated that their choice was influenced by the NPP’s proven track record, which they believe should be upheld.
We, the campaign team members of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen during the presidential primaries, have gathered here today to make our intention known. We followed Alan Kyerematen to the Movement for Change but have decided to return to our mother party after advice from the national campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NPP has done a lot in terms of developmental projects in its eight years in office. We want the NPP to continue with its progress, and so we have decided to support the party. We declare to support the party with our able strength for the betterment of us all with Dr. Bawumia becoming President in 2025.
Some supporters have urged Mr. Kyerematen to contemplate rejoining the NPP, expressing confidence that his opportunity to be recognized and lead the party will eventually arise.
