Since 1992, when democratic rule was instituted, the NPP and the NDC have held nearly equal terms of sixteen (16) years in power. For eight (8) years, H.E. Fmr. Prez Rawlings led the NDC throughout its first administration. H.E. Fmr. President Kuffuor ruled for eight years. Additionally, H.E. Fmr. Prez Mills and Fmr. Prez Mahama completed their eight years, four of which were spent under Prez Mills and four of which were spent under Prez Mahama. With H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo nearly in his eighth year in office, the NPP and NDC administrations have each had sixteen years in office since 1992.
The two main political parties in Ghana will compete fairly in the 2024 elections, using their respective track records to help Ghanaians choose the candidate they believe is most qualified to lead their nation. I acknowledge that both parties have been able to provide social amenities like roads, hospitals, schools, and so forth over the years, but the NPP stands out because it is the only political party that has not only provided social amenities to Ghanaians but has also implemented social policies that the NDC is unable to claim as its own. When the NDC gains political power after the NPP has implemented its excellent social policies, they are also known for criticizing these policies and doing all in their power to undermine them.
Social policies like National Health Insurance scheme came under attack from the NDC and the then NDC Members of Parliament led by Fmr.Prez Mahama who was Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi then boycotted parliament when the Prez.Kuffuor led administration brought it to Parliament for the bill supporting NHIS to be passed. Under the administration of Prez Mills and H.E John Mahama, they did everything to destroy the NHIS through the introduction of capitation, cancellation of free maternal care and failure to pay NHIS providers. When Prez.Akufo Addo was campaigning to introduce free SHS, the NDC sponsored over 20 adverts against this policy, today they are campaigning to reset free education which it’s clear the NHIS harm they caused will be done to free education when the unlikely happens.
I plead with Ghanaians to consider the great Prez Akufo Addo and Veep Bawumia great policies like free education, digitalization, teacher and nursing trainee allowances, 1 District 1 factory, agenda 111 which seeks to build many hospitals, DRIP initiative, planting for food and jobs and the many great NPP policies and vote massively for H.E Dr Mahmud Bawumia for a smooth continuation of these great policies and an introduction of new great social policies like free tertiary education for the disable and many great policies in the NPP manifesto.
