The enhancement of cashew production in the nation is anticipated to experience substantial growth if Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is elected as the next president on December 7.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that the forthcoming NPP government will implement superior strategies for cashew cultivation.
He indicated that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, the administration would introduce incentives aimed at fostering a thriving cashew industry, thereby contributing to economic development.
Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia’s government is committed to providing comprehensive technical, financial, and other forms of support to cashew farmers, enabling them to meet the country’s production needs effectively.
The Dr. Bawumia-led NPP government will set up learning centres for cashew farmers in the country.
Dr. Prempeh, also known as ‘Napo’, stated that cashew production holds significant potential for enhancing the nation’s foreign exchange earnings, highlighting the necessity to concentrate on and bolster this sector.
He urged stakeholders in the cashew industry, particularly farmers, to unite in support of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming election, asserting that the NPP has more advantageous strategies for their benefit.
Your lives will change overnight with Dr. Bawumia as the president of the country. He will provide all the resources that you need to boost cashew production.
I’m appealing to you to spread the good intentions of Dr. Bawumia to your colleagues elsewhere so you all vote for the NPP.
The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has notably enhanced cashew production through the establishment of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA).
The TCDA has implemented pricing strategies for cashews and other tree crops aimed at encouraging producers to sustainably boost their output. This model evaluates and establishes the costs and profit margins associated with all key stakeholders from the farm gate to the port or processing facility.
For the 2023/2024 crop season, the trading price was set at GHS8.10 per kilogram, with expectations of an increase to approximately GHS13.00 to provide better compensation for farmers and to incentivize the expansion of cultivated areas. This significant initiative by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government has led to a record high in the export of Raw Cashew Nuts, reaching 450,000 metric tonnes as of December 2023.
To ensure the quality of Ghanaian cashew, which is recognized as the second best globally, the Authority is diligently collaborating with relevant government bodies to regulate the cross-border trade of cashews intended for export from the sub-Saharan African region.
Additionally, the NPP government is offering free extension services and subsidized agricultural inputs to cashew farmers as part of its strategy to enhance cashew production, among other vital measures.
Given the NPP government’s favorable impact on cashew production in the nation, Dr. Bawumia is well-positioned to elevate cashew production further as president.
