The presidential candidate representing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed his intention to create a National Pilgrimage Authority.
This body is designed to oversee and regulate religious pilgrimages for both the Muslim and Christian communities in Ghana. Dr. Bawumia elaborated that this authority will facilitate the organization of trips to Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage and will also support Christian worshippers traveling to Israel.
While speaking to the congregation at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Atimatim, located in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency on Sunday, November 10, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the necessity of establishing a well-structured and transparent system to manage these significant spiritual journeys.
This initiative will extend beyond benefiting only Muslims. It will also include Christian pilgrims wishing to travel to Israel. The National Pilgrimage Authority will ensure that all eligible individuals are supported in making this meaningful journey.
He commended the harmonious relationship between Christians and Muslims in Ghana, encouraging all citizens to collaborate in preserving the nation’s tranquility.
The Vice President strongly articulated his disapproval of LGBTQ+ activities within Ghana. He emphasized that the Islamic faith, along with other religions in the country, stands against such practices. As a committed Muslim, he unequivocally stated that he does not endorse or accept LGBTQ activities.
I want to assure you that my government will not endorse such practices. It is not part of our values nor in Christian and Muslim teachings. It will destroy our country. It won’t happen under my watch.
Dr. Bawumia seized the occasion to emphasize the accomplishments of the government and urged Ghanaians to support him and the parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in order to sustain the advancements initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration.
