The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to elucidate any involvement they had with the Flower Pot Interchange prior to their departure from office in 2017.
In remarks shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, 12 November, Ofosu Nkansah raised questions regarding the NDC’s contributions during the initial phases of the project, in light of claims from NDC representatives asserting that the interchange was launched under the administration of John Dramani Mahama.
This debate has surfaced as President Akufo-Addo is set to inaugurate the newly constructed Flower Pot Interchange on 19 November 2024.Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, confirmed that the interchange is part of a larger motorway enhancement initiative.
Aimed at alleviating traffic congestion, the flyover is designed to work in conjunction with an existing underpass, thereby facilitating a more efficient North-South route across one of Accra’s primary thoroughfares.
The claims made by NDC communicators regarding the project’s inception during Mahama’s tenure have ignited discussions, prompting Ofosu Nkansah to call for greater transparency.
He asserts that if the NDC did indeed commence work on the interchange before 2017, they should disclose specific details regarding their involvement.
Ofosu Nkansah’s challenge underscores his dedication to clarifying the origins of the project, particularly as it is poised to become a significant infrastructure achievement in Ghana’s capital.
NDC should show us the work they had done on the flower pot Interchange when we took over in 2017.
Former President Mahama wanted to construct a bridge, President Akufo-Addo made it an Interchange in 2017 and used GoG funds to start it before completing with this Exim Facility. How’s an intention to construct a bridge the same as construction of an Interchange?.
