Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has raised concerns over the abandonment of key projects that were left unfinished at the end of his tenure.
He specifically criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for failing to pursue important road initiatives, such as those along the Accra-Kumasi Highway, as well as the Affordable Housing Project in Asokore Mampong, both of which he had initiated but could not complete.
In a conversation with select journalists in Accra on November 17, the former President expressed disappointment over the impact of the 2008 election defeat, claiming it led to the neglect of several crucial projects started during his administration.
Change of government in 2008 really affected us due to lack of continuity, because we had plans of continuing projects. But they were stalled. Our brothers in the NDC which took over power had a different ideology from ours
So they abandoned most of our projects. Asokore Mampong, the Affordable Housing projects we started were all abandoned. Accra to Kumasi road some of the projects we couldn’t complete were abandoned. What kind of rivalry is this?
He emphasized the need for project continuity, regardless of the government in power, arguing that the funds allocated to these initiatives are state resources and should not be wasted.
They said they would not touch the road projects I couldn’t complete while leaving office. If you will not continue, is it your money? It’s the state money, why won’t you touch the projects
