$1.2B BRIDGE POWER PLANT WILL FUEL AN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, JOB CREATION AND ATTRACT FOREIGN INVESTMENT – AKUFO-ADDO

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that the inauguration of the $1.2 billion Bridge Power Plant in Tema on November 19, 2024, represents a pivotal achievement in Ghana’s energy sector.

This event heralds a new phase characterized by resilience, sustainability, and advancement, setting the stage for a future free from energy deficits.

The 515-megawatt combined-cycle power plant, developed in collaboration with Early Power Ltd. and Endeavour Energy, stands as one of the largest and most sophisticated power installations in the nation.

The commissioning of this facility realizes a vision established in April 2017, when the project commenced. It exemplifies Ghana’s dedication to embracing state-of-the-art technology and innovative energy solutions to address its increasing electricity needs.

Today, we celebrate a transformative step forward in our journey toward energy independence. Reliable power is the backbone of development, and this facility is proof that Ghana is ready to overcome the challenges of the past and embrace a brighter future.

The President reflected on the difficult times of “dumsor” (frequent power outages) experienced during the prior administration, which adversely affected both daily life and business operations nationwide.

He assured the citizens of Ghana that the Bridge Power Plant would deliver reliable electricity, alleviating pressure on the national grid and tackling the energy shortages that previously impeded economic development.

This plant is more than a source of power; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to what we can achieve through strategic partnerships and a clear vision.

The Bridge Power Plant is engineered to fit harmoniously within Ghana’s energy framework, delivering efficient and environmentally friendly electricity. Its advanced technology guarantees reduced carbon emissions, in line with the government’s dedication to a more sustainable future.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the plant’s capacity to stimulate industrial development by providing dependable power to factories, hospitals, educational institutions, and residences.

Additionally, the facility will aid in rural electrification initiatives, extending electricity access to isolated regions and enhancing the living standards of marginalized communities.

The power generated here will fuel an industrial revolution, creating jobs, attracting foreign investment, and laying the foundation for sustained economic growth.

The President praised Endeavour Energy and its collaborators for their steadfast commitment to the project. He also recognized the vital contributions of Ghanaian engineers and workers who were instrumental in the realization of the facility.

Looking forward, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s dedication to tackling financial issues within the energy sector and enhancing partnerships with Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

He urged all stakeholders to collaborate in maintaining the facility and advancing Ghana’s energy goals.

This plant stands as a symbol of what Ghana can achieve when united by a shared purpose. It is with immense pride that I declare the Bridge Power Plant officially commissioned.
