The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has characterized the vote-rigging allegations put forth by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the ruling party as a calculated effort to condition the Ghanaian populace for the NDC’s forthcoming electoral defeat.
In a post on his official X account, Ahiagbah asserted that the NDC’s claims of a comprehensive scheme by the NPP to manipulate the election or incite chaos are unfounded and lack substance.
These remarks from Mr. Ahiagbah follow a recent press conference conducted at the NDC’s headquarters on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, during which the party’s Communications Director, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, accused the NPP of colluding with Brigadier General Michael Opoku to orchestrate electoral fraud in the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7.
He further suggested that instead of misleading the public, the NDC should acknowledge that their campaign is not progressing as anticipated.
This is simply a design to scare Ghanaians and justify the violence they’re plotting themselves. See this video by the NDC Obuasi Youth’s promise of violence.
The NPP is not a violent party. The NPP does not have revolutionary roots as the NDC. The NPP is committed to peace and will do its part to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections on December 7.
During the press conference held on Tuesday, Sammy Gyamfi asserted that the military officer is manipulating circumstances to secure a victory for the NPP, with the intention of positioning himself as the next Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Consequently, the NDC has announced its intention to petition the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, urging for comprehensive investigations to be conducted in order to prevent any possible violence in the forthcoming elections.
We are going to ensure that the King of the Ashanti people, who is very much interested in the peace of our nation and the peace of the processes leading to, during, and after the December 7 election, we will officially draw his attention to these developments because the headquarters of the operation of this guy [Brigadier General Michael Opoku] is Kumasi.
