The Director of Communication for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Miracles Aboagye, asserts that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has built more than 2,700 kilometres of roads in the Ashanti region.
He contends that no administration since the establishment of civilian governance has placed greater emphasis on road and infrastructure development in the Ashanti region, or any other region, than the NPP.
No government since 1992 has done as much as the NPP has in the Ashanti region or any other region.
During a One-on-One interview with Benjamin Akakpo on Joy News’ AM Show on Tuesday, December 3, the communicator asserted,
We have constructed over 2,700 kilometers of roads in the Ashanti region.
He further contended that the administration of former President John Mahama was responsible for the construction of merely “331 kilometers” of roads during his tenure.
Mr. Aboagye’s remarks were in response to former President Mahama, who is campaigning to regain his position in the upcoming election this weekend.
John Mahama has criticized the ruling NPP for its inadequate performance in the Ashanti Region. While campaigning in Kumasi, he emphasized the NPP’s failure to fulfill significant commitments to the area.
He specifically mentioned the inactive Afari Military Hospital, which, if operational, could alleviate the pressure on the already burdened Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. In contrast, Mr. Aboagye defended the former president’s record.
Doesn’t have a single hospital that he started and completed for the people in the Ashanti region.
Even hospitals that President John Agyekum Kufuor left in 2008, during his (John Mahama) entire eight years as vice president and president, he couldn’t complete even one. He started two of his own hospital projects but couldn’t finish them.
Mr. Aboagye asserted that the previous president left eight hospital facilities incomplete. In comparison, he noted that the government under Nana Addo has successfully completed and inaugurated six of these facilities.
He stressed that the former president’s achievements in the Ashanti region cannot be equated with the performance of the NPP in that same region
