Accra, Ghana — In a historic move that is set to transform Ghana’s border management, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia today launched the country’s new E-Gates system at Kotoka International Airport. The cutting-edge technology, designed, built, and owned by Ghanaians, is a significant leap forward in modernizing the nation’s travel infrastructure.

This marks a monumental step for Ghana in border management. The E-Gates are not only a reflection of our commitment to global standards, but they are also a testament to the strength of local expertise and collaboration.

Dr. Bawumia stated during the unveiling ceremony.

The system, which integrates biometric verification and digital travel credential technologies, is designed to streamline the immigration process for Ghanaian citizens, members of the diaspora, and foreign visitors.

“What once took hours of waiting can now be completed in as little as 15 minutes from landing to exit,

Dr. Bawumia explained.

The E-Gates project was developed in partnership with the local Margins Group and is fully managed by the Ghana Immigration Service. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that this initiative sets Ghana ahead of many advanced countries in intelligent border control.

This is a vision that has taken four years to conceptualize, and it showcases how homegrown solutions can meet and exceed global standards.

The new system, currently operational at Kotoka, will be expanded to other major airports and borders across the country, offering travelers nationwide a faster, more efficient, and secure experience.
