The Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed a strong commitment to improving prison infrastructure and the welfare of prisoners if elected president.
During his campaign tour of Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, after the launch of the 2024 NPP Manifesto, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his dedication to enhancing prison facilities to better serve as rehabilitation centers.
My government will focus on upgrading prison infrastructure to improve the rehabilitation of prisoners,
Dr. Bawumia stated.
Regarding prisoners’ welfare, Dr. Bawumia announced plans to substantially increase their daily allowances, currently set at GHȼ1.80, which he deems insufficient.
Dr. Bawumia has previously demonstrated his support for the Prisons Service by personally overseeing the rewiring of the Ashanti Regional Central Prisons and supporting the construction of potable water systems in various prison facilities.
In recognition of his contributions, the Prisons Service’s Ashanti regional directorate awarded Dr. Bawumia a plaque to show their appreciation.
