A DEVELOPED ECONOMY CANNOT THRIVE WITHOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A DIGITAL SYSTEM – DR. BAWUMIA

The Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underscored the importance of a digital address system within a contemporary economy.

Over the past seven years, Dr. Bawumia has advocated for a comprehensive digital address system for Ghana; however, some critics have minimized its importance and questioned the Vice President’s dedication to this initiative.

While addressing community stakeholders in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency on Thursday, August 29, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that both the digital address system and the national identity system serve as essential drivers of development, forming the foundation of advanced nations that emerging economies like Ghana must embrace.

Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a solid groundwork to transform Ghana into a modern economy.

When we came into office, Ghana was not having an address system that was working throughout the country. But an address system is one of the most important elements for any economy.

An address system is so important. Today, if you go to the United States and you collapse their address system; just erase it, if you could, that economy will collapse because you can’t function. The businesses cannot function without an address system.

I wrote in my book, 14 years ago, that we need an address system so when we came in I looked at the street address we were doing. I realized that it would take us such a long time to do it, so I said let’s have a digital address system and now we have it.

Ghana is the second country in the whole world to have a national digital address system. It is a very comprehensive system and every property in Ghana, whether in the village or the city, has a property address system and that is very key.
