President Akufo-Addo has approved the upgrade of selected districts to municipalities and municipalities to metropolises.
This announcement was made in a statement from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGRD) on Wednesday, December 4.
The decision aligns with the legal provisions set out in Act 936.
Among the municipalities upgraded to metropolises are the Ho Municipal Assembly, Sunyani Municipal Assembly, New Juaben Municipal Assembly, and Wa Municipal Assembly.
Furthermore, the Offinso North District Assembly, Birem North District Assembly, and Karaga District Assembly have been elevated to municipalities.
This move is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and local governance, in line with the government’s broader decentralization efforts.
