President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to commission the Flowerpot Interchange today, Tuesday, November 19.
Once opened, the flyover will help reduce traffic congestion between the north and south on the Tema Motorway.
The commissioning is expected to ease movement between areas such as Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, improving the overall quality of life for residents.
The project includes an 802-meter dual carriageway for the viaduct with asphaltic concrete surfacing, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp from the viaduct onto the Motorway heading towards Tema.
In addition, the interchange features a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an extra 200 meters of road linking Cantonments to the Giffard Road interchange, and a redesigned Flowerpot roundabout with improved approaches. The project also includes pedestrian walkways on both sides of the flyover, as well as road furniture such as streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
The project, which began on March 7, 2017, was awarded to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Gh. Ltd, with Deoke Consult Ltd acting as the consultant.
The contract duration was 93 months and was funded by Afrexim Bank and the Government of Ghana.
