Elders in the Ashaiman Zongo community have extended their heartfelt gratitude to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for providing a scholarship opportunity to one of their own, enabling him to pursue medical training in Cuba.
During a community engagement program held in Ashaiman and organized by Iqra Radio on Thursday, the Zongo Chiefs expressed their appreciation for the inclusion of Mohammed Muntari, a bright young man from Ashaiman, among a group of 40 students sponsored to study medicine through the Zongo Development Fund. The chiefs also appealed for more scholarship and development opportunities for their community.
In 2020, the Zongo Development Fund selected 40 academically gifted but financially challenged students from various Zongo communities to be trained as medical doctors in Cuba. Among them was Mohammed Muntari, whose exceptional WASSCE results, featuring all A’s, gained significant attention on social media, with many advocating for financial support for his tertiary education.
Vice President Bawumia, upon learning of the situation, played a key role in ensuring Muntari’s inclusion in the group of students sent to Cuba for medical training.
