Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also serves as the Chairman of the Police Council, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Ghana Police Shop at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday. This new facility is set to revolutionize the way police uniforms, souvenirs, and other essential logistics are distributed, ensuring uniformity and professional standards within the police force.
The modern shop, funded through a collaboration with the Kwahu Community, Geoford Enterprise, Netherlands Properties Limited, and Nafas RN Ventures, will not replace the government’s responsibility of supplying mandatory uniforms but will complement these efforts. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that police personnel could purchase additional uniforms and souvenirs either in-person or online, with financial support available through the Police Welfare Scheme.
“Our gallant officers and men of the Police Service, working in collaboration with other security agencies, put their lives on the line daily to ensure our streets, communities, and homes are safe,”
said Dr. Bawumia.
“For your sacrifices and commitment, the government will continue to support you.”
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the government’s continuous support over the past seven years, including logistical enhancements and recruitment of over 7,000 new personnel, which has significantly boosted the operational efficiency of the Police Service. He noted the government’s investment in infrastructural developments, such as the ultra-modern Service workshop, a basic school, and modern accommodations for officers at Kwabenya.
The Vice President acknowledged the remarkable transformation of the Police Service under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, citing improvements such as the facelift of the National Police Headquarters, expansion of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) to all 25 Police Regions, enhanced visibility, and active community engagements.
Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare assured the public of the Election Security Taskforce’s readiness to maintain law and order during the upcoming December 7 Election. Additionally, Interior Minister Mr. Henry Quartey stated that stern actions would be taken against individuals inciting violence on social media to deter others.
