The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has urged Ghanaians to consider the impactful social intervention policies implemented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and to cast a decisive vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, and the party’s parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December elections.
In addition to these policies, she highlighted several projects she had spearheaded through the Rebecca Foundation during her husband, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s eight-year tenure, which have positively transformed the lives of many Ghanaians.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo made these remarks during a gathering with traditional priests, priestesses, and warlords from the Ga State, where she expressed her gratitude for their support of her husband’s successful presidency over the past seven years.
The occasion also served as an opportunity for her to introduce Alma Naa Djama Adade-Prempeh, the wife of the NPP’s vice presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to the traditional leaders. Mrs. Akufo-Addo requested their prayers and support for her as the wife of the incoming Vice President.
Highlighting some of her key initiatives, the First Lady mentioned the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), the 50-bed Sunshine Hostel at the hospital designed to accommodate parents and guardians of children with cancer, the construction of 20 libraries nationwide, and the establishment of crèches around market centers to support children of traders.
She praised President Akufo-Addo for fulfilling numerous promises, particularly the free senior high school policy, which has enabled all BECE candidates to access secondary education, and the development of fishing harbours.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo emphasized that the country was progressing well and must remain in the capable hands of Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh to continue the NPP’s successful agenda.
Dr. Bawumia is the best option for Ghana. We must not let him slip through our fingers.
she stated to the gathering.
She also pledged to continue her charitable work after stepping down as First Lady.
In response, Mrs. Prempeh assured the gathering that once the NPP wins the elections, she will step in as Second Lady and continue the important work started by Mrs. Akufo-Addo for the Ga State and all Ghanaians.
