Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has urged the Ghana Police Service to ensure a peaceful election during the upcoming December polls. Emphasizing the importance of preserving Ghana’s democratic progress, Vice President Bawumia highlighted the crucial role of the police in the upcoming election.
Addressing an event at the Police CID Headquarters, Bawumia praised initiatives like the ‘Snatch Them Young’ policing program, which focuses on schoolchildren among other initiatives, for enhancing police responsiveness, accountability, and operational effectiveness. He urged continued efforts as the nation prepares for the general elections on December 7.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations. In a statement from the Presidency, it was noted that COP Yohuno’s appointment follows the advice of the Police Council during its meeting on July 17, 2024. Recognized for his distinguished three-decade career in law enforcement, COP Yohuno has held various significant roles within the Ghana Police Service.
President Akufo-Addo congratulated COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno on his appointment and expressed confidence in his capabilities to perform his new duties effectively.
