As Ghana nears the 2024 election, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on participants of the 4th National Muslim Conference of Ghana (NMCG) to maintain the nation’s peace, unity, and diversity.
Speaking at the conference’s opening in Accra on Friday, October 25, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility.
In a Facebook post, he shared, “Yesterday, I joined the National Chief Imam, fellow Muslims, and esteemed guests, including the Speaker of Parliament, for the 4th National Muslim Conference of Ghana (NMCG) in Accra.”
He noted that the NMCG, an initiative of the Muslim Caucus in Parliament, brings together Muslims from various sects to discuss issues of national importance. This year’s theme focuses on the role of Muslims in bridging gaps in healthcare delivery, a mission Dr. Bawumia endorsed.
“I reiterated our government’s dedication to expanding healthcare access,” he wrote, citing interventions such as the revitalization of the National Health Insurance Scheme, provision of ambulances nationwide, the establishment of e-pharmacy and Zipline Medical Drone Delivery Services, and the Agenda 111 project to build hospitals in districts lacking healthcare facilities.
Dr. Bawumia also encouraged participants to “uphold the peace, unity, and diversity of our country, especially as we approach the 2024 election.”
