A recent survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics indicates that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2024 election, is garnering significant support from first-time voters.
The polling firm suggests that this shift in voter sentiment, especially among the younger population, is noteworthy as the election draws near.
Musah Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, mentioned in a media interview that the survey encompassed more than 7,000 participants.
The findings revealed that a large majority of young individuals see Dr. Bawumia as the most suitable contender to lead Ghana. Dankwa highlighted that the NPP candidate’s recent nationwide campaign tour has not only revitalized the party but has also contributed significantly to his rising popularity.
He stressed that first-time voters will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the upcoming December general elections.
If you look at the polling numbers in detail, you would see that Bawumia’s gain largely came from first-time voters. In the April poll, he [Dr Mahamudu Bawumia] was losing by quite a bit but at the moment, he is at par with Mahama on first-time voters.
That is where he drew his numbers from, and they are now at 44 per cent each, so what I can say is that this election will be about the votes of the young voters. Whoever is able to win the minds and hearts of first-time voters will win this election.
