Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled a groundbreaking plan to reduce public transportation costs by at least 40% before the December elections through the introduction of electric vehicles.
Speaking at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong, Dr. Bawumia revealed that Ghana will transition from reliance on diesel, gas, and petrol to electric vehicles for public transport. This move is set to significantly cut transportation expenses and contribute to a greener environment.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that all preparations are complete and the electric vehicles will arrive in the country ahead of the elections which be held on Dec 7 2024.
I’m committed to transforming our public transport system by replacing diesel and petrol with electric power. We will introduce electric one-wheelers, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.
The estimates are finalized, and we expect the electric buses to be in place before the December elections. This change will drive down public transport costs by at least 40%
This initiative is part of Dr. Bawumia’s broader vision to modernize Ghana’s transportation infrastructure, offering both cost savings and environmental benefits.
