Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed assertions made by certain members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament regarding their alleged contributions to the procurement of equipment for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
Recently, the government provided excavators and various earthmoving machinery as part of the DRIP initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure nationwide.
Some Members of Parliament have claimed that the funding for this project was derived from their allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
However, during his speech at the Awubia Festival in Awutu Bereku, Awutu Senya West, Dr. Bawumia clarified that Parliament played no role in the implementation of the project.
He elaborated that the concept for the initiative was developed by a committee he chaired, known as the Critical Roads Committee, which he proposed to acquire equipment for road construction in each district.
This was an initiative from the committee I chaired.
We developed the concept, secured the funding, and implemented it independently of Parliament. No parliamentary approval was sought, so no one should falsely claim credit for the equipment that has been distributed to all districts across the country.
This idea was ours, and I ensured that the necessary equipment was procured and delivered to every district in Ghana. So, let no one spread falsehoods about their involvement.
