DR. BAWUMIA ENGAGES CROSS-SECTION MARKET TRADERS AND IMPORTERS TO FIND LASTING PANACEA TO THEIR CHALLENGES

Vice President and Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had a fruitful discussion with a cross-section of market traders and importers. 

In a post on his Facebook page, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the engagement was a successful one as measures have been put in place to address their concerns. He mentioned that his unique policies are tailored towards addressing their concerns and will adequately improve their businesses moving forward.

He outlined several policies which he believes will aid in improving their business and further tackle the challenges they are facing, by explaining how the various policies can influence their businesses positively.

Yesterday, I met with a cross-section of market traders and importers in Accra to discuss issues affecting their businesses and the way forward.
It was a very fruitful meeting and I took the opportunity to explain the new policies that I have proposed to improve the business environment in Ghana.
He expressed delight with the fact that the traders were happy with the various policies and have endorse them, which he believes is a step in the right direction and will further push him to come up with solutions and mechanism to improve their businesses.
My proposals were received with so much excitement by the traders and I am encouraged by their support.

Below are the various policies outlined by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to aid in improving businesses for the traders.
A flat tax regime for all businesses and individuals to make the system transparent and enhance compliance as exists in Estonia.
A Tax amnesty to be implemented in 2025 for all individuals and businesses to eliminate tax liabilities up to a certain year.
A flat tax import duty system at the ports for containers of various goods in cedis to make import duties predictable for traders and avoid persistent increases in prices by traders in anticipation of higher import duties.
Benchmarking import duties in Ghana to duties at the Lome Port such that Ghana’s import duties will not be higher than what exists in Togo ⁠Implement a policy of Faceless Audits by GRA by relying on technology
Abolishing the practice of invigilation by GRA where tax officers sit in shops (sometimes for months) to observe sales of traders.
