Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has generously funded the complete medical care of Priscilla, a five-year-old former leper, to enable her to undergo further treatment in Italy.
Priscilla, currently residing at the Weija Leprosarium, will depart from Accra to Italy on Tuesday, 30 July 2024, to undergo a medical procedure on her amputated leg following several unsuccessful surgeries in Ghana.
Reverend Father Campbell, who took Priscilla under his care at the Weija Leprosarium after learning about her abandonment by her parents due to leprosy, has played a crucial role in her well-being.
As a Patron of Lepers Aid Ghana and the ruling New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia met Priscilla, felt a connection with her, and decided to support her medical journey.
Given the limited treatment options available for Priscilla in Ghana, Vice President Bawumia graciously offered to sponsor her treatment at the largest Children’s hospital in Rome, Italy.
Dr Bawumia has conveyed his appreciation to the Italian Ambassador and the staff of the Italian Embassy for their dedicated efforts in facilitating Priscilla’s overseas medical trip.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his desire for everyone to keep little Priscilla in their prayers and hope for a successful medical procedure in the upcoming days during his meeting with Father Campbell, Priscilla, and the rest of the staff at the Weija Leprosarium.
Let’s remember little Priscilla in our prayers and wish her a successful medical procedure in the days ahead.
