Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia inaugurated the Ghana Music Experience (GMX), a newly established music streaming platform owned by Ghanaians, on Wednesday.
The launch event was held at the De Icon Centre located in East Legon, Accra. GMX is a venture of Omni Strategies and will receive backing from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The platform is scheduled to commence operations in January 2025. During his speech, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate conveyed his belief that GMX will enhance the music industry in Ghana.
The Ghana Music Experience is more than just a music streaming platform, as was just illustrated. It is much more than that; it embodies what it means to preserve our culture, support our artists, and leverage technology to foster economic growth within the creative arts.
There are a myriad of music streaming platforms, however, having one that is purely dedicated to Ghanaian music and musicians is a welcome addition in our digitalization journey as a country.
The General Manager of Omni Strategies, Ato Aduenu Tandoh, underscored the importance of a collective approach to ensure the App fulfills its intended objectives.
GMX is homegrown, reflecting our commitment to a ‘Ghana First’ agenda. It is also a call for action. We invite private entities, investors, and creative minds who share in our vision, to join us. Together we can ensure that every artiste has the tools and the opportunities t thrive.
Present at the event were Akwasi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture; Bessa Simons, the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana; and Akissi Ackah, the Marketing Manager of Ghana Music Xperience, along with numerous other stakeholders from the creative arts sector.
