The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia continued his Western Region campaign tour on Saturday, visiting the constituencies of Evalue Gwira Ajomoro, Prestea Huni Valley, and Tarkwa Nsuaem. In a series of engagements with chiefs, community leaders, and residents, Dr. Bawumia laid out his vision for responsible mining and sustainable development, emphasizing the importance of protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
In a post on his Facebook page, Dr. Bawumia highlighted his proposals to reform the mining industry, which he described as critical for Ghana’s economic growth but needing responsible management. His plan includes reforms in the licensing and monitoring systems, aimed at involving local chiefs and communities in overseeing mining activities. He also proposed the creation of a Minerals Development Bank to finance the capital-intensive mining industry.

Dr. Bawumia stated, stressing that a Bawumia presidency would collaborate with mining communities to protect the environment while promoting sustainable practices in the mining sector.
In addition to mining reforms, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to working closely with local stakeholders to ensure that development initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of the communities. He emphasized that under his leadership, local chiefs would play a more active role in shaping the future of mining in Ghana
