Vice-President and NPP flag bearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to introduce targeted policies in the agriculture and energy sectors aimed at curbing the escalating costs of food and electricity in Ghana.
Speaking to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and the clergy in Sunyani, Dr. Bawumia outlined his strategy for economic improvement through innovation.
In agriculture, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to scaling up commercial, mechanized, and irrigated farming to combat food price inflation and strengthen the economy.
“Food is critical; thus, enhancing agricultural productivity through advanced methods is paramount to our national prosperity,”
he asserted.
Turning to energy, Dr. Bawumia announced plans to transition the nation’s electricity generation from fossil fuels to solar power, leveraging Ghana’s abundant sunlight. He advocated for energy independence and highlighted the potential to generate up to 2,000 megawatts of solar power, which accounts for half of the country’s current consumption.
“This shift not only promises to reduce our electricity costs but also our environmental footprint,”
Dr. Bawumia added.
The NPP leader also reflected on his party’s past achievements and future initiatives, asserting that the NPP has significantly propelled the nation’s development forward. He called on voters to support the continuation of these efforts in the upcoming elections.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia received commendations from local leaders for recent infrastructural developments, including the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport and the upgrade of the Sunyani Regional Hospital, with further enhancements on the horizon.
In his remarks, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his vision for a Ghana where innovation drives growth, sustainability, and greater independence from external economic pressures.
