The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has declared himself the leader of a forward-thinking Ghana, promising a future of possibilities and progress.
Addressing thousands of party supporters at the NPP’s final rally, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Dr. Bawumia positioned the upcoming election as a decisive moment for the nation’s direction.
The choice Ghanaians face on Saturday is simple: do we move forward into the future, or backward into the past?
He asked, contrasting his vision with that of his main opponent, former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Bawumia touted the achievements of the NPP government, emphasizing a “mindset of possibilities” that has underpinned policies like the Free Senior High School program, the One Constituency, One Ambulance initiative, and improvements to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He cited these as evidence of the NPP’s ability to solve problems and transform Ghana into an advanced nation.
On healthcare, Dr. Bawumia pointed to the increase in ambulances from 37 in 2017 to 307 today and the inclusion of free kidney dialysis and sickle cell treatment under the NHIS.
When we came into government, NHIS was collapsing under a cash-and-carry system. Today, we’ve revitalized it and brought innovations like medical drone deliveries.
He also reflected on education, highlighting how the Free SHS and free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs have expanded access to learning for millions of Ghanaian children.
Dr. Bawumia took a swipe at his opponent, challenging Mr. Mahama to name a single initiative from his presidency that impacted the entire nation. “The choice is clear: do we embrace a mindset of possibilities, or go back to a time of limited ambition?”
The rally, described as the “Possibilities Victory Rally,” marked the culmination of the NPP’s campaign, which began in February with a focus on bold solutions for the future.
The event attracted supporters, party leaders, and dignitaries, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
With the election just days away, Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to vote for the NPP to secure a future of innovation, progress, and prosperity. “We represent the future,” he declared confidently.
