Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to ensure that tertiary education becomes accessible to all individuals with disabilities in the event of his victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia shared this information with religious leaders in the Western North Region during his ongoing nationwide tour. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that while scholarships are intended for individuals from all walks of life, his administration will give special consideration to those with disabilities.
I am very clear on the way forward. I believe that for persons with disabilities, we are going to support them a bit more. We are giving scholarships to every person but I am going to dedicate some of the monies to our scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund to provide free tertiary education; both tuition and accommodation to every person with a disability who makes it into the university so they can all benefit.
He highlighted that starting from 2025, the scholarship will encompass both academic and residential expenses for individuals with disabilities. Dr. Bawumia expressed his belief that God could work through him to bring about change in Ghana.
I believe that I can do something for Ghana. I believe God uses everybody that he wants to use to change the society…I believe that something good can come from Walewale and if God says that it should come from Walewale it will come from Walewale.
He emphasized the importance of clergy intervening to safeguard the nation’s peace from being jeopardized by politicians seeking personal gain. Additionally, he mentioned that his deep respect for all religions was instilled in him during his upbringing.
