Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has suggested a change in the country’s energy generation mix to incorporate solar power.
He believes that harnessing the advantages of solar energy will help solve the energy issues faced by the nation. Speaking at the Bono Regional House of Chiefs during his campaign tour for the upcoming general elections in December, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the importance of this shift.
The country has been dealing with inconsistent power supply, known as ‘dum-sor’ in the Akan language, which has had a negative impact on local businesses. Dr. Bawumia stated that solar power is more cost-effective and accessible for generation.
Our electricity bills are high because the generation is expensive. I want Ghana to shift from using liquid fuels to generate power and resort to solar. That is cheaper. With solar power, the country will be relieved.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has given his assurance to the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and their constituents that, if elected as president, his government will ensure the successful completion of all ongoing projects.

Nana Osiadieyo Agyemang Badu I, the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, praised the present administration for commencing various development initiatives in the region. However, he also voiced apprehension regarding the government’s neglect in addressing crucial social infrastructure projects like roads and hospitals.
