Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, will announce his running mate by the end of July, boosting the party’s momentum ahead of the December general elections.
Speaking on the Wednesday, June 5, 2024, edition of Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo,’ Kodua emphasized that the selection process for the running mate will not extend beyond July.
“I have had conversations with a lot of people, and I have also spoken to Dr. Bawumia. One thing I am very clear in my mind about is that we nominated our running mate in August, but that did not help us. This time, as we aim to ‘break the 8’, certain things that did not help us in the past must not be repeated,”
he stated.
With just six months remaining until the December 7 general elections, the anticipation surrounding Dr. Bawumia’s choice of running mate is intensifying. The timely announcement is expected to solidify the NPP’s strategy and enhance their campaign efforts.
Several prominent names have surfaced as potential candidates for the vice-presidential slot, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Bryan Acheampong. Each of these individuals brings significant experience and a strong track record, making the competition for the position increasingly fierce.
Dr. Bawumia’s strategic decision to name his running mate by July demonstrates his commitment to learning from past experiences and ensuring the party is well-prepared to secure victory in the upcoming elections. This proactive approach is expected to energize the NPP’s base and attract additional support as they work towards breaking the 8-year political cycle.
