On a picturesque Sunday morning in Atimatim, located within the Afigya Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region, both Christians and Muslims convened at the town’s Roman Catholic Church to express their solidarity for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign.
In line with his customary interactions with community stakeholders during his campaign tours, Dr. Bawumia actively engaged with the constituents of Kwabre East, including traditional leaders, clergy, opinion leaders, Zongo Chiefs, and Imams.
The gathering at the Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, which included both Imams and the Muslim community alongside Christians, exemplified the rich diversity and religious tolerance that characterizes Ghanaian society.
This is beautiful. To have Muslims and Imams in a Church building discussing national issues is so refreshing. This cannot happen in so many countries.
An Imam, representing his fellow clergy, emphasized the significance of the occasion as members of the two religious communities gathered to hear Dr. Bawumia speak.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his admiration for this demonstration of interfaith harmony, commending both the Muslim and Christian communities for their peaceful coexistence, which he highlighted as essential for the stability of Ghana.
There is peace and understanding between Muslims and Christians in Ghana and it is one of the reasons we have peace…It is so beautiful to see Imams here in this chapel. This reflects our mutual understanding and respect for each other. You will hardly see this anywhere in the world but this is happening in Ghana one.
Continue to live in harmony and continue to respect one another.
The assembly, which included traditional leaders, clergy, and imams, expressed their admiration for Dr. Bawumia’s character, influence, and vision. They also offered prayers on his behalf and pledged their support for him.
