In a historic demonstration of diplomacy and party leadership, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, has successfully mediated a significant reconciliation between Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Minister for Energy.
This resolution comes after a prolonged discord between Chairman Wontumi and Napo within the NPP in the Ashanti Region, characterized by disagreements on key party matters and Napo’s potential selection as Bawumia’s running mate, which has now been effectively addressed through Dr. Bawumia’s intervention.
The reconciliation process is a vital part of Dr. Bawumia’s consultations leading up to the announcement of his running mate for the upcoming elections. Reports suggest that a meeting was held at Dr. Bawumia’s official residence, with Wontumi, Napo, Nana Nkansah Boadu, Agric Nzema chief, and other senior party members present, creating a positive environment for resolving outstanding issues.
Sources familiar with the negotiations have confirmed that both Wontumi and Napo have committed to setting aside their disagreements and supporting Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, fostering a newfound unity within the NPP.
With this agreement in place, Dr. Bawumia is now ready to propose Napo as his running mate nominee to the NPP’s national council, with an endorsement scheduled for Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Upon the expected approval by the national council, Dr. Bawumia will officially announce Napo as his running mate in early July, marking a significant moment for the NPP as they prepare for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
