Dr. George Domfe, a Development Economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS) at the College of Humanities, University of Ghana, expressed his belief that if elected in the 2024 elections, Bawumia would prioritize listening to the people as president.
During an exclusive interview with Gordon Asare-Bediako on the ‘Bɛ Kyerɛ Mu’ morning show on Movement Television on Saturday, July 6, 2024, Dr. Domfe highlighted that Dr. Bawumia’s selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as his running mate was heavily influenced by the desires of party members.
Vice President Bawumia listened to the members of the NPP in his selection of Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh. All the research works conducted by different research groups pointed to the larger majority of NPP members wanting Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh.
He elaborated that this holds great importance as it provides a clear indication of how Dr. Bawumia would address the issues of the average Ghanaian as the President.
He will be a listening President looking at how he listened to the desires of the party’s people to name Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as his running mate. This is what Ghanaians need in a leader, the one who listens to our concerns and acts upon them.
The leading researcher mentioned that in all the studies conducted by his organization and other research teams, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh stood out as the top choice among all the potential candidates for the position of running mate.
Dr. Domfe also pointed out that selecting a running mate from the Ashanti Region was a wise decision made by Vice President Bawumia, considering the significant role the region plays in the NPP’s electoral success.
He emphasized that the Ashanti Region was instrumental in securing victory for the NPP in the 2020 elections and could potentially be the key to achieving the party’s goal of breaking the 8-year cycle.
