DR. BAWUMIA’S GOVERNMENT WILL FIGHT CORRUPTION THROUGH DIGITALIZATION – JOE GHARTEY

Joe Ghartey, the Member of Parliament representing the Essikado-Ketan Constituency and former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has firmly asserted that the forthcoming NPP administration, led by H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will intensify efforts to combat corruption through the utilization of digital infrastructure and an improved legal framework designed to deter corrupt practices.

He emphasized that the strategic application of legal instruments and digital technologies will greatly diminish both the opportunities and motivations for corrupt behavior, especially within the public sector.

The distinguished legislator and legal expert expressed these views during a public forum focused on anti-corruption and governance, organized by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition as part of the Pledge Against Corruption (PAC) Campaign, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The event, themed “Anti-Corruption and Governance Commitments of Political Parties,” aimed to elevate anti-corruption reforms within the political party agenda in anticipation of the 2024 elections.

Hon. Joe Ghartey highlighted that both the Kufuor and Akufo-Addo administrations enacted significant policies, passed pertinent legislation, and allocated substantial resources to various anti-corruption agencies to bolster the fight against corruption.

He referenced several anti-corruption statutes, including the Right to Information Act, the Witness Protection Act, the Public Financial Management Act, and the Anti-Money Laundering Act. He also noted that funding for anti-corruption institutions has seen a considerable increase in recent years.

“This government has raised budgetary allocations for the Police (162%), the Audit Service (83%), and CHRAJ (21%) by the end of 2021, compared to 2016,” he stated.

The former presidential aspirant of the ruling NPP further asserted that the next NPP government under Dr. Bawumia will capitalize on the remarkable digital transformation he has championed.
