DR. BAWUMIA’S SELECTION AS THE NPP CANDIDATE COUNTERS THE NDC’S ETHNOCENTRIC STRATEGIES

Kwabena Agyepong, who serves as the Senior Campaign Adviser to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has asserted that the candidacy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has effectively diminished the National Democratic Congress (NDC) traditional dependence on ethnocentric strategies.

During an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Agyepong contended that Dr. Bawumia’s nomination as the NPP flagbearer has challenged the NDC’s narrative, which has characterized the ruling party as an “Akan party” to influence voter sentiment.

The NDC has been a master in propaganda… They resurrected the Alien Compliance Order. They have been telling the whole world that the NPP is an Asante party, and that we don’t respect people from the North.

Dr. Bawumia, a Northern Muslim, serves as the NPP’s flagbearer, leading Agyepong to assert that the strategies employed by the NDC have lost their effectiveness.

I’m pretty confident that we may surprise a few in Accra… Electing Dr. Bawumia has disarmed the NDC of their most potent propaganda weapon.

This development follows years of allegations from the NDC claiming that the NPP represents an “Akan party.” Former President John Mahama had earlier raised concerns regarding the NPP’s willingness to endorse Dr. Bawumia, suggesting the influence of ethnic prejudices.

Nevertheless, Kwabena Agyepong’s statements underscore the importance of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy in moving beyond ethnic divisions and showcasing the NPP’s commitment to inclusivity.
