A government spokesperson on governance and security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has advised Ghanaians to vote for the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to tackle galamsey in the country.
There has been increasing concerns by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) over their inability to provide some parts of the Central Region with water because of the activities of illegal mining at River Pra.
Reacting to the issue on UTV’s political show, Boakye-Danquah stated that Dr Bawumia will increase the mercury-free machines in the system when voted into power.
He added that this step by Dr Bawumia will enable what he called “responsible mining”.
Boakye-Danquah said: “This contaminated water needs to be left for some time for nature to repair the damage.
It is a serious issue. It is an issue that must transcend political conversations.
It is something that affects all of us. So NDC should not go about telling these illegal miners that when they assume power, they will give them the green lights to continue with the galamsey to destroy the water bodies more.
We can’t live in a country which has no laws working. So to me, the future of fighting these illegal galamsey activities is by voting the elect, Dr Bawumia.”
