FIFA-STANDARD ASTRO-TURF IN TUMU OPENED BY DR. BAWUMIA, ADVOCATES FOR YOUTH SPORTS

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inaugurated the FIFA-standardized Tumu Astro-turf, a project funded by the Ghana National Gas Company and constructed by Blaze Investment Company. The ceremony took place in the Sissala East Municipality, where Dr. Bawumia was joined by an entourage to engage local chiefs and community members about regional development challenges.

During his address, a representative from Ghana Gas, Anyimah Edomgbole, highlighted that the establishment of the Tumu sports facility aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment to promote sports as spearheaded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia. This facility marks the fifth such development in northern Ghana, with over 40 more Astro-turfs currently under construction nationwide.

The new sports complex is expected to serve as a vibrant center for various games and activities, fostering local talent and providing the youth with alternatives to engage in during their free time. It aims to deter the involvement in illicit activities by offering a constructive outlet for energy and passion.

Vice President Bawumia expressed his hopes for the facility’s impact on the region, stating, “Today marks a historic moment with the commissioning of this FIFA-standardized Tumu Astro-turf. Our government is dedicated to providing facilities that will significantly transform the lives of our youth.”

He praised the efforts of the local MP, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, and the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, acknowledging their roles in bringing the project to fruition. Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the broader achievements of the NPP government despite global economic hurdles, citing unprecedented advancements in infrastructure across the country.

“The launch of approximately 150 Astro-turfs since our tenure began is a testament to our commitment to sports and youth development. Each constituency will soon have its own, reflecting our belief in the transformative power of sports,” Dr. Bawumia added.

The event concluded with evening football matches under the new floodlights, demonstrating the facility’s capacity to host significant sporting events, including Premier League and other FIFA-sanctioned football matches. The MP, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, conveyed the community’s gratitude through an interpreter, emphasizing the anticipated positive turnout for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming elections.
