Former President John Mahama left attendees in disbelief at the 40th-day adua (funeral) of the late Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, held in Accra.
What was intended to be a solemn occasion honoring the distinguished banker and invoking Allah’s mercy for his soul was unexpectedly transformed into a political gathering by Mahama.
He astonished many by using his tribute as a platform to discuss his political manifesto. The situation escalated when he presented a copy of the manifesto directly to the National Chief Imam, further surprising the audience.
Numerous mourners expressed their discontent with Mahama’s actions, questioning the appropriateness of introducing political discourse and distributing his manifesto during a funeral service.
This is not a political ground but an adua to seek Allah’s mercy for such a respected statesman and this is what our former President does?
Critics have expressed strong disapproval of the former President and his advisors, labeling their actions as “disrespectful” towards the National Chief Imam, the late Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, and the grieving family.
Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, who died last month, held the positions of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The 40th-day memorial service was graced by notable figures, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, various Imams, and Zongo Chiefs.
