The presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that his empathy for the less privileged stems from his own personal experiences of hardship, having once faced struggles to make ends meet.
Dr. Bawumia shared that, in the past, he worked as a taxi driver, cleaner, farm laborer, and day laborer, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges many Ghanaians endure.
During an interaction with members of the creative arts industry on Wednesday night, and in response to a question in Pidgin from Shatta Wale, the Vice President expressed that his primary objective in politics is to create opportunities for everyone, especially those who are struggling.
Highlighting his dedication to helping the less fortunate, Dr. Bawumia spoke of his role as patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, an NGO that provides support to individuals affected by leprosy.
He noted that he frequently spends time with people who are often marginalized by society.
Speaking in Pidgin, Dr. Bawumia said,

emphasizing his deep care for the struggles of ordinary people.
He also mentioned that initiatives like the government’s Free Senior High School program were introduced to reduce the burden on the poor, ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to education.
