Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized that his presidential campaign focuses on the concerns and interests of the Ghanaian people rather than resorting to insults.
He made this statement in response to an admonishment by Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV during his visit to the palace in Wa as part of his two-day campaign tour of the Upper West Region.
In his address, Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV urged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and all other presidential candidates to conduct a campaign that is free from insults and instead focuses on presenting policies and plans to enhance the living standards and economy of Ghanaians.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in his reply to the advice from the overlord of Wa, highlighted that since the commencement of his campaign nearly two weeks ago, he has been dedicated to informing the electorate about his proposed plans and programs that he intends to pursue if elected as President of the Republic.
He acknowledged that both he and his closest competitor, John Mahama, are Northerners. However, he emphasized that while John Mahama has previously served as President of Ghana, he himself is yet to hold the position.
Therefore, the NPP presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia, asserted that considering the presidency is likely to be held by a Northerner (either himself or John Mahama), it would be more appropriate for him to serve for eight years rather than the four years that would be the case if John Mahama is elected.
[My main opponent and I] are both your children. We are both from the Northern and he has been president before but I haven’t been president before, so I have told him (John Mahama) that he is my senior brother, and he should have patience for me so I can also become president of this country.
I will be able to be president for 8 years, and he can only be president for four years, so if the presidency is coming home, then we should have it for 8-years rather than four years,” the NPP presidential candidate for 2024 general elections added.
In his speech, The Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV expressed his appreciation for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for his unwavering stance against the LGBTQI++ phenomenon. He further emphasized that the entire Muslim community and the residents of Wa fully support his position on this matter.
Your statement made at the most appropriate forum and at the appropriate time was a master stroke, and we are confident that you are not supporting it (LGBTQI++) now nor will u ever do so in the future.
