I WILL VOLUNTARILY STEP DOWN FROM MY POSITION AS PRESIDENT ON JANUARY 7 – AKUFO-ADDO

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed that his final significant responsibility as president will be to guarantee that the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024, are conducted in a manner that is free, fair, and peaceful.

During an event honoring senior citizens to commemorate the 2024 Founders’ Day on Monday, August 5, 2024, in Accra, President Akufo-Addo remarked that, in accordance with the 1992 Constitution, he will conclude his tenure by stepping down after completing his second term, similar to his predecessors in Ghana’s 4th Republic.

I will willingly step down as president on January 7, 2025,” the president is quoted to have said by graphic.com.gh.

I intend to ensure that our reputation as the beacon of democracy and stability in Africa and the world is maintained.

I do so because I will be in good company, that of Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, who, in the fourth republic, have been privileged by the people of Ghana to serve two terms as President of the Republic.

President Akufo-Addo stated that, notwithstanding various economic difficulties, the nation has achieved significant advancements during his administration.

He emphasized that throughout his seven years in office, he has navigated the country through the tumultuous period of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated challenges it presented.

It’s been a very difficult time, but I believe most of us can see that we are now turning the corner and returning our economy to normalcy and reviving growth – the growth that made our economy one of the fastest-growing economies in the world in the years prior to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic.
