Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged to decrease the government’s size and reduce spending by a minimum of GH¢30 billion should he win the presidential election.
Speaking in Accra on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Dr. Bawumia announced his proposal to cap the total number of Ministers and Deputy Ministers in Ghana at 50.
In a meeting with religious leaders in the Northern Region, he emphasized his commitment to addressing the escalating expenses associated with government operations.
I have made it clear that I intend to reduce government expenditure and the size of the government by at least 3 percent of GDP, which equates to about GH¢30 billion over the next four years. Additionally, I will ensure there are no more than 50 ministers, aiming to decrease the size of the government.
He further pledged to protect the public treasury and effectively distribute public resources to aid socially advantageous and influential initiatives.
