Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his gratitude for the significant role played by the late former Ejisu Member of Parliament (MP), Dr John Ampontuah Kumah, in his pursuit of the presidency.
The Vice President acknowledged Dr Kumah’s unwavering support and encouragement throughout the entire process. The untimely passing of the former MP on March 7, 2024, has deeply saddened Dr Bawumia, as he recognizes the immense loss it represents.
During a tribute delivered at the funeral of the former Deputy Finance Minister in Onwe-Ejisu on Saturday, Dr Bawumia reminisced about their joint campaign tours across the country, which showcased Dr Kumah’s dedication to his presidential aspirations.
His sudden death in March has been a personal blow. Long before I decided to run for president, Hon. John Kumah was among the few party leaders and legislators to have publicly urged me to run and pledged his unending support.
Through his public pledge, John supported me strongly, campaigning with me everywhere in the country.
Dr. Bawumia praised the efforts of the 45-year-old legislator in promoting youth empowerment and his commitment to the development of Ghana, making a lasting impact.
His initiatives focused on empowering the youth and looking for a brighter future for Ghana’s next generation. His commitment to the national development programme remains indelible and has left an enduring mark on the country’s trajectory.
He was also a lawyer of good standing, in that area too he was brilliant, diligent and professional in dealings with his clients.
Dr. Bawumia, along with numerous mourners, including political figures, gathered to pay their final respects to John Kumah, alongside his family. He is survived by his wife and six children.
