Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed strong support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ambitious railway development initiative, describing it as a key tool for Ghana’s transformation.
During a recent visit to the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision to prioritize the expansion of the country’s railway network. His proposed plan includes a strategic railway line running from Tema through Boakra, extending to the northern and western parts of Ghana. The plan also aims to leverage the country’s iron ore deposits to fuel the project’s success.
In an exclusive interview with Asempa FM, President Kufuor commended the railway initiative as part of a broader set of policies that could significantly contribute to the nation’s development.
“I was listening to him a few days ago when he spoke about the importance of prioritizing railway development,” Kufuor remarked.
“The plan to connect Tema to Boakra and onward to the North is a great idea, especially utilizing the country’s iron resources. It’s a step in the right direction.”
Kufuor further emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, with his understanding of global trends, particularly in technology and digitalization, is the right candidate to lead Ghana into the future. “We need someone who understands modern trends in global affairs, technology, and digitalization,” Kufuor said.
“These are the trends in developed countries like the U.S. and others, and Bawumia is well-positioned to navigate them for the benefit of Ghana.”
