Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, regarding the inclusion of LGBTQ+ topics in Ghana’s basic school curriculum.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh has accused the North Tongu MP of being instrumental in the incorporation of Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) into the educational framework.
As he is commonly known, NAPO stated that the curriculum, which includes the teaching of LGBTQ-related subjects in various schools, was established during the administration of former President Mahama, asserting that the NPP merely inherited it.
In response, Ablakwa refuted NAPO’s claims and threatened legal action against him. “NAPO will hear from my lawyers,” he declared emphatically. In turn, NAPO urged his fellow MP to address the matter in Parliament rather than resorting to the courts.
When has Okudzeto ever spoken the truth? Why should such a person should be listened to? He wants to take me to court? There must be something wrong with him. We are all in Parliament so if he likes he should come and face me in Parliament.
On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, during an interview on the morning program “Kokrokoo” on Peace FM, Dr. Opoku Prempeh remarked that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) obtained financial support in 2011 for the creation of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) manual.
They signed a 5-year agreement from 2016 to 2020; that by 2016 they would have had a new draft manual for teaching CSE. They had trained teachers, stakeholders, NGOs…5 years running before Nana Addo came.
In fact, the amended Basic School Curriculum Jacob Kor (then Director General – GES) signed and published acknowledged they had finally inculcated the CSE into the curriculum after receiving payment. I have all the documents and evidence here which I can show to you. When they finished with everything, NPP came to power…we have all the evidence. What NPP did was to change Standard Base curriculum to Objective base curriculum.
