The Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, has asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, are exhibiting a desperate quest for power that poses a threat to the peace of Ghana.
He alleged that the NDC and Mr. Mahama are instigating demonstrations in the country as part of their political strategy in the lead-up to the general elections. His remarks followed a demonstration organized by members of the Democracy Hub over the weekend, which resulted in the arrest of several participants for unlawful behavior.
This is a sad day for Ghana’s democracy because there are political strategies orchestrated by the opposition NDC and its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama to destabilize Ghana.
I have joined demonstrations in the past with AFAG, I was a leading member of the Let My Vote Count Alliance, and we mobilized people on the streets to demonstrate lawfully, that we were not reckless. If we continue to allow people to embark on this recklessness, or we give a few people the opportunity to go into sensitive public installations and do this then we have a problem especially when we are going for a crucial election.
We are going into a crucial election, and Mahama is so desperate and they will do anything at all to make sure we don’t get the peace in Ghana after the election, They know they have lost the elections already.
A total of twenty-eight individuals from various backgrounds, who took part in the three-day Democracy Hub demonstrations, have been placed in police custody following the denial of their bail application by an Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, September 24.
