MAHAMA MUST STAND SHOULDER-TO-SHOULDER WITH DR. BAWUMIA AND DEBATE THE ISSUES – AFENYO-MARKIN

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has issued a direct call to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, urging him to accept a debate challenge from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia has extended an invitation for a debate ahead of the upcoming December elections. However, Mahama’s 2024 Campaign Team has declined the offer, claiming that there is no need for further discussion on economic matters and asserting that Mahama can effectively communicate his vision without a debate.

In a statement to journalists at Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of this debate for transparency and accountability:

We’re calling on Mahama to accept Dr. Bawumia’s invitation for a debate. This isn’t about engaging in politics of insults or name-calling. If Mahama is genuinely committed to his comeback and wishes to demonstrate his growth, he should stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr. Bawumia and address the real issues facing our nation.

Dr Bawumia is ready to put the cards on the table. If he says we have not performed as a government, it’s only through a debate that he can put a point across

With many calling for a debate between the two, Dr. Bawumia has pointed out that Mahama is avoiding the debate out of fear that his policies will be exposed. According to Dr. Bawumia, Mahama’s hesitation is because he doesn’t want to reveal weaknesses in his policy record.
